Today I had a gathering with many relatives in Shanghai, so we chose this local cuisine restaurant. We basically ordered all their signature dishes, and the overall quality was really on point. What impressed me most were the special-price bamboo leaf crab, eel in oil, and pork liver. The heat and seasoning were just right, preserving the local cuisine’s characteristic thick oil and dark sauce without being overly salty.
Also, I must mention their stinky tofu. It’s truly one of their signatures; the more you eat, the more addictive it gets. In the end, it was completely finished by everyone. The fact that a table of relatives could chat and finish most of the dishes already speaks volumes about the taste.
Honestly, this is a relatively authentic, traditional local cuisine restaurant without too many frills, but the dishes are consistent, and the per-person cost is not high. It’s suitable for gatherings or bringing out-of-town friends. Overall, highly recommended.
