Hanji Gourmet House「翰记美食馆」

Review

Today I wandered around Chikan until evening. When it was time to eat, I looked at several places and finally chose Hanji. We arrived at the restaurant a little past 8 PM. I was worried they might be closing soon, but they were still operating normally.

We ordered five-spice goose, boiled capon, a vegetable dish, and a serving of Taishan eel rice. The five-spice goose was well-prepared—the meat was tender and flavorful, not too salty. The boiled capon had firm meat and tasted great with a bit of soy sauce. The eel rice was the most surprising dish of the meal. The rice had absorbed the flavors of the eel and cured meat, with a nice wok hei (breath of the wok), making it more and more fragrant as we ate.

While eating, I noticed that most of the customers were locals, not many tourists. I feel that places like this are generally reliable. Later, I checked and saw that it has been on Dianping for many years, and our actual experience didn’t disappoint. The prices were reasonable, the portions generous, and the two of us were very satisfied.

If you come to Chikan Ancient Town and want to avoid tourist traps while trying some local home-style dishes, I think this place is worth a visit.
