Liyuan Daoxiang Diaolou Boutique Cultural Homestay (Kaiping Chikan Ancient Town Branch)「里苑稻香碉楼精品人文民宿(开平赤坎古镇店)」

Review

For this trip to Kaiping to see the diaolou, we stayed at this Liyuan homestay booked on Qunar. The room rate was just over 300 yuan, and we checked in just before the summer peak season, so the overall value for money was quite good.

The hotel is in a good location, near the diaolou cultural area, making it convenient to visit various attractions. Originally a diaolou primary school, it was converted into a homestay, preserving some characteristics of the old building while incorporating modern design. The overall environment is clean and comfortable, making for a relaxing stay.

We booked a twin room. I’d rate the room about 80 points. The space was sufficient, and it came with a small courtyard where we could sit and drink tea or relax. Although the facilities aren’t luxurious, they’re perfectly adequate for daily stays, and the cleanliness was well-maintained.

The front desk service was good, and they patiently answered any questions. Breakfast was served from 8 AM, with a limited variety but enough to fill you up. Additionally, the hotel offers bicycle rentals. If you want to slowly explore the diaolou and surrounding villages, cycling feels more immersive than driving.

Overall, my experience with this hotel was positive. If you’re visiting Kaiping to see the diaolou and don’t want to stay at the expensive hotels inside the scenic area, I think this is a worthwhile option. It’s conveniently located, comfortable, and offers good value for money.
