Today I took a stroll around Jieyang Old City. The weather was particularly nice, and it felt very comfortable walking slowly along the ancient streets. As I wandered, I happened to spot this Sunan Qinji Braised Goose shop.
Why did I notice this shop? Because I had eaten their braised goose in Shantou before, and it left a deep impression on me. So when I saw they had opened a branch in Jieyang Old City, I immediately wanted to go in and try it again. It had been a while since I last had Chaoshan braised goose.
I have to say, the quality of Sunan Qinji’s braised goose is indeed top-notch. They use local lion-head geese, which have good texture and fat content. What impressed me most was their braising sauce—dark in color, very appetizing to look at, and rich in aroma. When you taste it, not only is there a savory flavor, but the braising essence has truly penetrated the meat, not just relying on seasoning.
Since I had already eaten quite a bit of braised goose in Chaoshan before, this time I didn’t order the braised goose rice. Instead, I ordered one goose claw, a small portion of goose liver, and a section of goose neck, totaling 85 yuan. Each item showcased the skill of braising, especially the goose liver, which had an excellent texture—tender, fragrant, and soft, textbook quality.
To be honest, it’s not easy to find braised goose of this quality in many places. The price may not be particularly cheap, but if you like Chaoshan braised flavors, this shop is worth a special visit.
I still need to save some stomach space to explore other foods in the old city today, but I’ll recommend this place to everyone first. If you’re visiting Ji’an Old City and craving braised goose, you can plan a stop here.
