Today, after finishing some errands nearby, it was just meal time. I opened Dianping and found this place called Henan Hometown. Seeing that it has been open for seven years, I felt quite confident. After all, in Guangzhou, where restaurant competition is so fierce, a shop that can stay open for seven years must have some skills.

Since I was eating alone, I ordered a few simple items: a small portion of lamb soup (30 yuan), a bowl of hot and sour soup, a baked flatbread, and their intangible cultural heritage steamed bun. I had never tried the steamed bun before, so I wanted to see what it tasted like.

When all the dishes arrived, honestly, the overall quality was relatively high among Henan cuisine, and the presentation was quite refined. The lamb soup had a rich color and a delicious flavor, very comforting. The lamb was braised until tender and fell apart easily, not dry at all—you could tell the ingredients were fresh.

The baked flatbread was also a pleasant surprise. The crust was very crispy, and it was still hot when served, probably freshly made. The bread was thick, with spices inside, and the more you chewed, the more fragrant it became. The texture was substantial, not a hastily made flatbread.

What satisfied me the most was their hot and sour soup. The broth was rich, with strong spice flavors, and the ingredients were generous. In many places, the hot and sour soup tastes thin, as if diluted with water, but here the flavor was solid—thick, spicy, sour, and savory all at once. It was very satisfying to finish.

In the end, I finished all four items by myself and felt quite full. Honestly, this is a place I can visit regularly.

I’ve always felt that northern restaurants like Henan or Central Plains cuisine don’t focus much on fancy plating or gimmicks. Instead, they rely on ingredient quality, portion size, and solid flavors to impress. That’s also why I like Henan cuisine. Overall, this Henan Hometown is worth recommending. If you want lamb soup, hot and sour soup, or baked flatbread, you can give it a try.
