Review

Today I originally wanted to go to Xingji Lamb Rib Porridge, but when I arrived, the boss said the remaining lamb ribs had been taken by a customer. I was a bit disappointed. Then I opened Dianping and saw an old goose shop across the street. Since I was already there, I thought I might as well give it a try.

After sitting down, I ordered half a portion of white-cut pig tongue and an additional white-cut goose leg. The total was 35 yuan, including the dipping sauce. The price was quite reasonable.

Personally, I really like white-cut dishes because this cooking method best tests the freshness of the ingredients. Without heavy seasonings to mask anything, whether the meat is good, cleanly handled, and cooked to the right degree becomes very obvious. Overall, this place was indeed good.

Don’t be fooled by the small and old environment—during meal times, the shop is basically full. The ingredients are fresh, and the white-cut goose and pig tongue taste clean and have a good texture. It shows that the boss really has skills.

I think when eating in Guangdong, sometimes you really can’t judge by the environment alone. Especially for these neighborhood old shops, you should look at the crowd, how long they’ve been open, and whether locals are willing to eat there. Generally, shops that look ordinary or even a bit shabby but are crowded during meal times and have been open for many years are usually safe bets.

This time, I didn’t get to eat the lamb rib porridge, but I stumbled upon this old goose shop, which turned out to be a small surprise.
