After getting a haircut at noon today, I hadn’t eaten yet, so I searched for nearby small eateries. Lately, I’ve enjoyed trying these unassuming little restaurants—big chains have marketing and traffic, but these small shops need real reviews. The good ones survive; the bad ones naturally fade away.
I had passed by this wonton shop a few times before but never had a chance to try it. Today, I wasn’t very hungry, so I decided to order a small portion. The shop is really tiny, probably only about 10 square meters, but it feels honest.
I ordered the smallest wonton serving, 10 yuan per bowl. Their wontons are made fresh to order, not pre-made from the fridge. After the customer orders, the owner starts wrapping them and then cooks them immediately—I really appreciate that.
The wonton wrappers are chewy, not mushy, with a bit of elasticity. The filling is finely minced meat, similar to Fujian bianrou, with a springy texture. The broth contains lard, white sesame, and pepper—not too strong but smooth.
For 10 yuan, getting a bowl of handmade wontons like this is great value. The location is indeed hard to find; such small shops rely on repeat customers and word of mouth. If you’re nearby, give it a try—it’s a comforting simple meal.
