Today I came to Shanwei to play. By the time I drove to the city center, it was almost 11 p.m. I was worried there wouldn’t be much to eat, but after browsing Dianping, I found this Chaoshan beef hotpot restaurant.
It had been a while since I last had beef hotpot, so I went in and ordered a 168 yuan luxury two-meat three-person set meal. The set was quite rich, including snowflake beef, tenderloin brisket, freshly made beef balls, beef dumplings, rice noodles, and two portions of seasonal vegetables. The portion was just right for three people, offering good value.
Overall, the food quality was up to standard. The beef was fresh, needing only a few seconds in the broth, tender and flavorful. The freshly made beef balls were bouncy, and the seasoning was well-matched. What surprised me most were the beef dumplings; several friends agreed they were delicious, with thin skin and ample filling, and a strong beef flavor. They were a little surprise of the meal.
If you arrive in Shanwei at night and don’t know what to eat but want something hot, this place is worth considering. Personally, I give it 85 points overall: consistent ingredients, reasonable prices, and worth recommending.
