Pinxiang Meishi「品香美食」

Review

Today I made a special trip to check out this local small restaurant.

What surprised me most was that it has been registered on Dianping for seven years without a single review, yet it’s still open. I think the reason this kind of place survives is definitely not marketing, but the word-of-mouth built by neighbors eating here bite by bite.

Look at the sign at the entrance—the words “Pinxiang Meishi” have faded to the point of being barely visible. The owner clearly hasn’t bothered to spend money on packaging, putting all the effort into cooking instead.

I came during dinner time. There were only five or six tables, and most were full. It was obvious that most customers were regulars. The place seems to be run by a family. I ordered and paid through their son, which felt quite warm.

Eating alone, I ordered a portion of fermented black bean pork belly stir-fried with peppers, plus a bowl of rice, totaling 39 yuan. Since there weren’t many chefs, I waited about twenty minutes for the food, but the first bite told me it was worth the wait.

The dish looked ordinary, but the heat and seasoning were spot on, and the ingredients were very fresh. It had that home-cooked feel with a touch of restaurant quality, very appetizing. I almost finished all the rice by myself.

This place has no decoration, no influencer check-ins, and no promotion. If you’re coming for the ambiance, you might be disappointed. But if you enjoy seeking out old-school flavors hidden in neighborhoods, I think it’s worth a try.

Next time, I plan to come back and try their other stir-fries. Small shops like this, relying on taste rather than marketing, are becoming rarer. I hope the owner’s business keeps getting better.
