In a place like Jade Street, where food competition is fierce, standing out with a bowl of pig trotter rice is no easy feat. I recall there are at least eight or ten shops here doing pig trotter rice, but among so many options, I think this one is particularly serious and impressive.
First, the pig trotter is braised well. It’s soft and tender to just the right degree—not too hard to chew like some places, nor too mushy. It goes down very comfortably.
Second, the plating is thoughtful. They don’t just toss the meat onto the rice; they arrange the fatty, half-fatty, and lean parts in layers, which shows care and makes it feel like more than a rushed meal.
Third, a big plus is their free soup. The owner is likely a Chaoshan native, and they pay attention to details. Many fast-food places serve bland soup, but theirs contains chicken, bones, radish, and corn. Even though it’s free, they’ve put effort into it, which is rare.
In terms of price and portion, it’s also quite competitive. I ordered a combo of pig trotter and pig ear rice for 20 yuan—generous portions and consistent taste. Elsewhere, such a combo might cost 23 or 24 yuan. If you buy a coupon on Dianping, it’s even cheaper, offering great value.
Overall, in an environment with so many dining options and fierce competition, this pig trotter rice shop has carved out its own niche, which is no small feat. If you want pig trotter rice in Jade Street, this is the place to go.
